Champaign Country Club

Kathryn + Wil | Colorful Champaign Country Club wedding

Oh my goodness! My heart! When I first sat down with Kathryn, her mom and sister, we talked a lot about Kathryn + Wil and how they ended up having their wedding in Champaign. Though they both grew up in Champaign, they went to school in Tennessee (and now live there) and her parents currently live in Alabama. It turns out both Kathryn + Wil grew up in Champaign, and Wil's family still lives here. It made the most sense given their childhood and their ties to the community. Don't you just love a good "high school sweethearts" story? <3

Also at that first meeting, there was talk about "Rocky Top" being played (I mean, how could you NOT??). We discussed Kathryn's love of color (like me!). And when Kathryn said the colors would be pink, orange and navy, I was ALL IN.  We met several months later again to go over some last details and I learned that her dress was a Hayley Paige... swoon! They showed me the wedding invitation, and I immediately knew it was a Lilly Pulitzer look they were going for. (And poor Wil had no idea what any of those words meant - ha!)

The day went smashingly well, and I immediately grew to love the antics of Wil and his groomsmen. Throughout the day, several tears were shed by the ladies in the wedding party and mothers, but Kathryn smiled through it all. Sometimes you have to smile to keep from crying, especially when the tears are of happiness and new beginnings.

I am SO happy I was able to witness Kathryn + Wil and their college friends singing along to "Rocky Top" at the cocktail hour. I had been inside photographing details, but came out just in time. It was definitely the highlight of the day, and also the cover photo for this blog post!

Lastly, Wil the Groom = Photobomb World Champion... I find at least 3 "where's Wil?" instances just in this blog post. See if you can find them! LOL ;)

Meredith + Scott | Colorful Champaign Country Club wedding

I've discovered in 2017 that my brand and photography is full of COLOR, so when I walk into Meredith + Scott's outdoor tent reception at the Champaign Country Club, I was in complete awe!  They had chosen a color palette of orange, yellow, pink & teal and executed ever detail to its fullest.   I think it's fitting that my first official post on my new website be this vibrant and full of color!

I've only known Meredith + Scott for about a year since they hired me, but I feel like we've been friends for much longer.  When Meredith first put on her gown, I told her she looked like Belle from Beauty and the Beast and she asked if I already knew that was her favorite Disney character.  I had no idea, but it was so fun to make that connection!  The couple chose not to see each other before their ceremony, but we scoped out a neat little corner in the church for them to hold hands and pray beforehand.  Scott didn't want to let go of her hand!  It was such a sweet moment.  I mentioned during their engagement session post that Meredith has an infectious laugh, and I feel like you can imagine her laugh through some of these photos -- I adore her personality, and you can tell why she is so loved as a youth minister.

This reception was the kind I dream about -- and outdoor tented reception on a country club golf course with loads of color.  There was no detail they hadn't thought of, including having the dance floor tented as well in case of inclement weather (because, Illinois). The paper lanterns, ribbons, and florals everywhere tied it all together so nicely.  The use of color reminded me of Moroccan and Indian inspired weddings, and definitely fits this couple's personality to a T.  Uplighting around the tent and surrounding trees made the whole affair feel like a magical, enchanted garden, and I was having the best time photographing every angle.  The fireworks show was a surprise to the bride and groom, and we capped off the night with a sparkler exit too.  I am so thrilled to share this wedding with you!  Congrats, Meredith + Scott!

Amber + David | Champaign Country Club wedding | Champaign

Years ago I spoke about my degree in agricultural communications and my career in photography to my former professor Bob Siebrecht's class on the UI campus. I think it was Intro to ACES or something along those lines, and one of the students sitting in the classroom that day was none other than Amber. She'd already been dating David for a while (they are high school sweethearts!), and I think she pretty well decided that day that I would be her wedding photographer someday. Thinking back on that day, I am so grateful to Bob for asking me to speak to his classes a few times while he was still teaching, and have to think that he was smiling down on us Saturday, probably with a scotch in hand. Now, back to Amber + David :) these two were the BEST to work with! They were so relaxed all day, and super accommodating to me, even though they were the clients!! Amber asked me several times throughout the day if I needed anything, and these two along with their wedding party followed my directions so well that we actually finished the portrait portion of the day in record time! We had ample time for portraits of the couple, so you'll see a lot of those below. A few of my favorite parts of the day included the golf cart "grand prix" through the Champaign Country Club grounds, Amber taking a photo of ME on the golf cart (you can find it on my IG or FB), and the impromptu limbo contest on the dance floor using arms as the bar! LOL! It's always a pleasure working at the CCC, and I love the portraits we got inside the building in the front hallway and my new favorite place in all of Champaign -- the back formal dining room. Congrats to you both -- I wish you ever happiness!
