Champaign County Courthouse

Sarah + Andrew | City Hall elopement in Urbana

Sarah + Andrew had their wedding date on their calendar for months, but they had to wait to make an appointment to be married at the courthouse. So about 6 weeks out, they contacted the Champaign Circuit Court Secretary and got on the schedule for Friday, April 26. Weddings are performed by judges in the 6th Judicial Court in counties around East Central Illinois and can take place Monday-Friday from 11:30-12:30. The costs is $10. You also have to be sure to get your marriage license at the Brookens Center at least 1 day prior to the wedding, and that fee is $75.

Once Sarah + Andrew had their appointment, she let me know and we got the ball rolling for my photography services. To reserve my services for an hour (that 11:30-12:30 time slot), it’s $100, with a balance of $200 due the week before the wedding, and you receive all the digital images via download. Generally I provide courthouse clients with about 100-150 images, with print release. My contracts are all online and easy/quick to fill out and sign, and then pay securely. I try to make it simple for all involved!

If you or someone you know is considering a courthouse wedding, have them contact me to see if we can work together!

Megan + Sean | Urbana Courthouse weekday wedding

Most of my courthouse weddings happen on Fridays, but Megan + Sean chose a Monday to be joined as husband and wife. It turned out to be a great idea as there weren’t any other weddings that day so we had the hallway and the judge to ourselves! These first two photos are 😍😍😍!

I adore courthouse weddings because they are so intimate and low pressure. I also love that no phones are allowed because it forces the couple and their loved ones to hang around, chat, and connect while we wait for the courtroom to open.

If you or someone you know are considering getting married at the courthouse, please send them a link to my website! I’d love share with them my courthouse wedding photos and walk them through the whole process.

Crystal + Jayson | Married by Judge at the Champaign County Courthouse

I'm an old pro at this point of getting through security at the Urbana courthouse with all my equipment. The one thing I do still need to do though is keep a watch with me, because once I leave my phone in my car, I'm lost on time!  Cameras are not allowed in the courthouse at all until 11:30am sharp, so those of us who are there for weddings with cameras hang out in the foyer area until we get the go ahead.  I put all my stuff up on the belt, empty my pockets, and head on through the metal detector.  I purposely don't wear any jewelry so I don't have any extra things to take off or worry about setting off the alarm or getting "frisked" off to the side.  I have one pair of boots that set me off this winter -- never again! ;)

Anyway, onto Crystal + Jayson -- Crystal planned their courthouse ceremony months in advance, including a few conversations back and forth with me. She had her dress and her bouquet all before I meet with them a couple months ago!  I guess you could say she is a planner. :)  Jayson's daughters served as the wedding party and witnesses, and they were both such great sports!

Judge Randy Rosenbaum presided over the marriage and after the short declarations of intent, he pronounced them as partners in life!  It was a beautiful late July day, so we went outside for a large group photo of everyone that attended with them, and some more portraits of the couple outside the lovely brick courthouse. Congrats, Crystal + Jayson!!
