Katie + Jake | Barrelhouse 34 wedding in downtown Champaign

A few months ago I helped Kaitlin Powell photograph a wedding for some long-time friends of hers. We started out photographing the ladies and the details at the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Champaign. Then I headed on over to Barrelhouse 34 to photograph the ceremony space, the guys, and some more beautiful details.  Barrelhouse is such a beautiful space and worked really well for Katie + Jake's intimate guest list.  Following the ceremony, we took the couple and wedding party down the street for some portraits while the guests mingled in the courtyard for cocktail hour.  In the meantime, the ceremony setup was transformed back into a bar setup with tables and chairs for the guests' dinner from Black Dog Smoke & Ale House.  Katie's pastel-hued wildflowers bouquets pair perfectly with the mismatched pastels of the bridesmaids' dresses.  It was such a fun, unique take on bridesmaid coordination and we loved the challenge of it!  Katie + Jake's butter yellow VW bug was used an additional prop for some of the portraits, and it worked nicely as a backdrop for the floral and rings photos.  I am a bold color type of gal, but I am loving all these pastel hues and the softness of Katie's bouquet -- perfection!  Congrats to the new couple!

From Birth Photography to Fresh 48 Sessions

I have had the distinct pleasure of photographing several births since I started doing them a few years ago. I have limited them as much as possible and tried to accept them only in my non-busy seasons, but due to the nature of birth, they obviously cannot be scheduled. :) Those babies just always like to have their own timelines!! For this reason and the fact that I have 2 small children myself, I have decided to take a hiatus from photographing births for the time being. I’m going to shift my focus a bit to more Fresh 48 sessions instead which are much easier to schedule! Fresh 48 hospital newborn session

Switching from birth to Fresh 48

What’s a Fresh 48 session you ask? It’s a session done usually at the hospital within the first 48 hours after delivery. Mom, Dad and baby are usually moved to the postpartum rooms, have had a chance to shower and eat, and have possibly invited some family to meet the new baby. I am kept aware of your due date and when you go into labor, and then once baby is born, you contact me to schedule a time to come in for about an hour to document some of those first interactions with your baby. I can photograph siblings and grandparents meeting the new baby, breastfeeding/bottle feeding, dressing baby, details, and a few portraits of the new family together. For a limited time, I will be offering a discount on these sessions, which includes a digital download of the images. Are you expecting in 2017? Contact me to book your Fresh 48 session within about 1 month of your due date. I’m so excited to meet some new babies and document these precious moments!!

Dancing with the CU Stars | Fundraiser for Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club

HB2_6577.jpg

Late January and February is sort of my "slow season" around here, so I'm taking the time to catch back up on a few blog posts that I had let slide over the past year or so. Today I'm starting off with the Dancing with the CU Stars event that I have photographed a few times. I enjoy seeing the hard work these community members put into their routines, and then the amazing financial support put forth by the guests and local businesses to support the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. Ten local celebrities once again spent weeks practicing their dancing moves for the 4th annual Dancing with the CU Stars gala on November 6 at the Refinery. More than 400 guests attended the event, and following all ten performances, the audience votes for their favorite dancers by donating money to support the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. Each dollar counts as one vote, and at final tally, more than $211,000 had been raised! That is amazing! mirror ball trophy with Sam Banks Creg McDonald, sponsored by the McDonald Group Creg McDonald group realtor dancer Patrick Rouse, sponsored by GTPS Insurance Patrick Rouse dancer Pam Knox, sponsored by Tummelson, Bryan & Knox LLP Pam Knox attorney dancer Jennifer Hesch, sponsored by Jennifer Hesch Keep Collective dancer Dan Marker, sponsored by Hickory Point Bank Dan Marker dancer Victor Fuentes, sponsored by El Toro Mexican restaurants Victor Fuentes El Toro dancer Allie Ramshaw, sponsored by RamClean Allie Ramshaw real estate dancer Kim Martin, sponsored by Martin, Hood, Friese and Assoc.
