Jesus Christ Superstar | Chicago Lyric Opera House

I got an amazing opportunity last week that I'm so excited to share on the blog.  OSA International (who I've worked with before in Champaign at the State Farm Center) contacted me a couple weeks ago about getting some photos for them. They were doing the sound for the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar at the Chicago Lyric Opera House and wanted photos of the equipment being used and the dress rehearsal the day before opening night.  I spent most of the day backstage where the team from Shure did interviews with the sound staff, and I did action shots, headshots and equipment photos.  A lot of the equipment was on stage and in the orchestra "pit" so I got to be really up close and personal with the show.  Then at 2pm the "dress rehearsal" started and I got to enjoy the full show while also taking photos of it.  I put dress rehearsal in quotation marks because I heard they sold something like 1700 tickets to the rehearsal so there were a ton of people, and there were no stoppages for the entire duration other than intermission.

The show was AMAZING.  The performers were all so, so great and totally "on" for this rehearsal, but I definitely had a few favorite characters.  I thought Caiaphas and Pilate were really great as supporting actors, as well as crazy King Herod.  Solo performances by Jesus, Judas, and Mary Magdalene all had me sobbing in my seat.

Also, since I was working for the sound company, I was paying extra attention to the microphones.  I thought it was really cool how they used the mics as props in quite a few scenes.

Lastly, if you can get to the Chicago area this month, Jesus Christ Superstar runs through May 20 at the Lyric Opera House.  I highly recommend it!!

Paige + Kyle | JW Marriott Hotel wedding | Chicago

In early July, I spent a day driving to and from Chicago with my good friend Rebekah Albaugh, working as her second photographer for the day. It was a gorgeous wedding and beautiful day, with nearly perfect weather for a mid-summer event. I started out with the Kyle and the guys in the groom's suite at the JW Marriott hotel. I knew immediately that I was in good company as the guys were watching "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," one of my husband's & my favorite TV shows. I also heard a few quotes from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" tossed around throughout the day -- hilarious! We met up with Rebekah in the lobby to get ready for the First Look with Paige + KYle, followed by wedding party portraits down the block at the Chicago Board of Trade. We then took a trolley around the city to a park near Lake Michigan, and by the Chicago River near the Wrigley Building and Trump Tower. We found some truly beautiful pockets of light and Paige + Kyle looked stunning! Following the ceremony at St. Chyrsostom's Episcopal Church, we headed back to the Marriott for the reception, which was beautifully decorated in black, white and gold. Big thanks to Misse from Honey Bee Weddings for her great work with the timeline and making sure we were where we needed to be!(Photographed for Rebekah Albaugh)

Amanda + Jason | The Links at Carillon Plainfield wedding

It was so great to hang out with Amanda's family again, since I did her sister Shannon's (+ Brandon) wedding about a year and a half ago. I need to reiterate here that I LOVE, LOVE LOVE photographing the weddings of siblings of past clients. It's like I'm part of the family already and makes things go so smoothly. If you've checked out my Facebook page too, you'll see an early part of the day where I was given the job of cleaning nail polish off a few of Amanda's toes that had gotten smudged... I will do (almost) anything for my brides! If THAT doesn't prove it, I don't know what will!! :) Amanda was a stunning bride, and Jason looked extra-handsome in his gray tux. Their wedding party was a fun group, willing to do whatever we asked and having a great time throughout the day. Toward the end of the night, my assistant Emily and I started keeping an eye on the rain as we'd envisioned doing a rain image with flash. Once it started sprinkling pretty good, we ran out for a quick test shot, and then decided we needed to get Jason + Amanda outside NOW. So we grabbed them and got the two rain images you'll see below. Who says rain on you wedding day is a bad thing?? Or ironic, if you're Alanis Morrisette, #amiright? LOL ;)

Amanda + Jason, we thoroughly enjoyed being a part of your wedding day, and wish you the very best!

Leave a comment below for Amanda + Jason, and after 50 comments, they will receive a complimentary 11x14" mounted print of their choice.
