Ashley + Matt | Yellow + White Decatur Conference Center Wedding

What a dream wedding Ashley + Matt had! Ashley adores the color yellow, and she incorporated the happy color in a very classy and subtle way while still making a visual impact. We started out the day at the Shear Image Salon in Mt. Zion while my second photographer Teran met up with the guys at the bride's aunt's home in Decatur.

Following the ceremony at Holy Family and the bubble exit, we were able to get into the reception space at the Decatur Conference Center to get some photos of the decor without any people in it.  I was thrilled when Ashley told me we'd have that opportunity -- I don't often get to photograph the reception venue untouched by guests!

From there we went on to downtown Decatur to Taproot and for some fun candid shots in the street while we waited for the bus to return from its parking spot.  Those few minutes were some of my favorites moments of the day -- a groomsmen on the phone trying to call the driver, another groomsmen running into Jimmy John's for some fuel, and a bridesmaid taking a minute to cool off. It also gave us a chance to goof off in the street for a few group photos and candids -- it was a welcome chill "break" time!

The recently renovated Decatur Conference Center was immaculately decorated with lush florals by Flowers by Kristine, mirrored centerpieces, gold chiavari chairs, pintucked tablecloths and gold charger plates, with wine bottles as the table numbers. The five-tier cake by Cake Artist's Studio was the stunning statement piece in the middle of the room. The TVK Orchestra kept the party going all night long!  Congrats, Ashley + Matt!  Your wedding was one I'll remember for a long time!!

Ashley + Matthew | Surprise Proposal by the Lake

HB3_8486.jpg

It was so awesome to be a small part of this special wedding proposal this past weekend.  I drove to Decatur where Matthew and his family had picked out a nice high spot overlooking lake Decatur where he would propose to his then girlfriend, Ashley. Matthew and I exchanged several emails working out the timing and location details of his proposal to Ashley. I met him and a few family members at Nelson park in Decatur, and then we all hid and awaited Ashley's arrival via limousine! Ashley is a big fan of the Bachelor and Matthew's proposal was definitely a nod to that, along her favorite color yellow.  Following the proposal, we spent the rest of the hour doing a mini engagement session in the nearby Anna Bethel Fisher Rock Garden. Then the limo whisked them off to dinner, complete with personalized champagne!

It's so fun to be part of surprise proposals and impromptu engagement sessions, and I was so happy to have been asked to be there! Congrats to you both and I hope you enjoy every minute of this phase of life + wedding planning!!

Jillian + David | Decatur Club wedding | 1920s themed wedding

HBP_1579.jpg

Every once in a while, it's nice to be the second photographer for a wedding. Besides the fact that it's slightly more relaxing (don't have to stress as much about the must-have shots!), it's also nice to be able to focus more on getting candid shots and behind-the-scenes images. I loved just staying in the background at David + Jillian's big day in Decatur, as I was the second shooter for my good friend Kellie of Across the Miles Photography. Kellie also sent me to the Decatur Club early so I could get some decor images before the guests arrived. What a beautiful setup!! The black, white and gold roaring 20's theme was very cool and executed to a T. I had such a great time! Another fun note: Jillian + David's engagement photo by Kellie was featured in The Knot Chicago next to my photo of Kevin + Brent! How cool is that?? So glad Kellie and I could share this special accomplishment together. :)
