MJ is a graduate student in the theater department at Illinois. She needed a headshot to send in with an application, so I met up with her at her normal stomping grounds - the Krannert Center - for a few quick images. I love that she had her makeup done for this session -- it really sets the images apart. Shout out to Brittany for doing a great job! Mini headshot sessions with Holly Birch Photography are roughly 20 minutes and include one high-resolution jpeg for your personal or professional use. Book yours here: BOOK ONLINE
My favorite part of Caitlin + Ted's wedding day had to have been when Caitlin (with the help of a few friends) sang a song for Ted that she wrote. It was totally sweet, and a catchy, upbeat tune that encouraged their guests to sing along once they caught on to the words. I am kicking myself that I didn't also record it with my backup camera that does video. Ted and Caitlin chose to see each other prior to their ceremony in a "First Look." I sometimes get couples asking for my opinion on this non-tradition. As a photographer, I think it is great because it really frees up our time together later in the day, as well as your guests' time. It also alleviates some pressure on the couple if they are nervous about having all eyes on them as the bride first walks down the aisle. I don't personally subscribe to the notion that the couple shouldn't see each other beforehand as it is bad luck, but I will support any of my couples in holding up that tradition.
As is common with ME (ugh!) these days, it rained on their wedding day. Sorry to bring the rain with me, 2012 clients! We were able to get in some photos in the amphitheater at Krannert before the rain rushed us inside. We also tried to hit up another locked building, and ended up our allotted portrait time with a few images in front of the Illini Union, before heading back to the Round Barn Center. I also was able to get them back outside for a few minutes after sunset, and after the rain had stopped.

Heidi + Matt are so cute together. They were both a little nervous about having their photos taken, but they did a great job. Heidi has an exuberance about her non-stop so she didn't quit smiling the whole time. Matt on the other hand has more of a grin, and I told him he was giving me a George Strait vibe. We started their session at the UI Arboretum Hartley Gardens, then made a trip to the outdoor steps at Krannert, followed by a quick stop at the Busey-Evans dorm which holds a special place in their hearts. :) Also, a fun tidbit about Matt... He and I both used to show Herefords at the State Fair at about the same time. Small world!
