Carlee + Lexi | Senior friends model session at the county fair

Carlee is one of my senior models for the Class of 2019.  You may remember her from this small town shoot we did a few months back in our hometown of Mason City.  I'd been conceptualizing this fair/carnival shoot with lots of lights, colors, and movement in the background.  Carlee lives a little over an hour away from me, so I suggested a county fair in between us and picked a date that worked for us both.  She offered to bring her friend Lexi along too and I think it added a whole extra dimension and level of posing to the session that takes it to the next level!

Carlee's official senior session is coming up at the end of this month and I'm super excited for some of the things we have planned!!  Definitely come back to the blog the last week of August to see some of those, as well as my FB page and Insta for sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes!

Darbie + Adam | Patriotic engagement session | Lincoln, Illinois

Darbie contacted me a couple weeks ago wanting to do an engagement session with her new fiance, Adam. Adam will be stationed out of state soon and she wanted to do the session before he leaves. It was super fitting that we scheduled the session on the morning of Veteran's Day, in Adam's hometown of Lincoln, IL, which ironically isn't too far from my hometown either! We started the session just outside of the Lincoln Grand 8 theater which has an adorable script marquee out front. Adam wore his dress blues and Darbie wore a red dress she purchased online and had tailored by a co-worker. They looked so sweet together! It was extra fun too (and humbling!) walking around the square in Lincoln and having people stop Adam to thank him for his service. After a quick outfit change, Adam got into his camouflage duds and we hit up the historic painted Lincoln sign. Then they both changed into casual fall outfits in a nice gray/navy combo and we finished up at the Postville Courthouse, a replication of the building and site where Abraham Lincoln practiced law. I love that Darbie brought along a patriotic red, white and blue blanket to sit on and wrap around them as it made for a perfect prop with the scenery! Congrats, Darbie + Adam!! A.J. + Craig : Lincoln Banquet Center wedding

I was so privileged to photograph a wedding in my tiny hometown of Easton this weekend. I went to the same high school as A.J. + Craig and have even known Craig for much longer as we were in the same 4-H club. I was worried it was going to rain off and on throughout the day, but it really only rained just after we had finished the portrait portion of the day. The storm clouds rolling in definitely helped though, as you'll see from a few of the photos below! We did the portraits at the Edward R. Madigan State Park in Lincoln before heading to the Lincoln Banquet Center for the reception. I had a few different favorite parts of the day, including seeing many people from home that I haven't seen in years, some even in probably a decade! The best part though was probably when the mother-of-the-bride goosed the brother-of-the-bride as they were coming down the aisle. Hilarious! Leave a comment below for A.J. + Craig, and after 50 comments, they will receive a complimentary 10x15" mounted print of their choice.
