Late January and February is sort of my "slow season" around here, so I'm taking the time to catch back up on a few blog posts that I had let slide over the past year or so. Today I'm starting off with the Dancing with the CU Stars event that I have photographed a few times. I enjoy seeing the hard work these community members put into their routines, and then the amazing financial support put forth by the guests and local businesses to support the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. Ten local celebrities once again spent weeks practicing their dancing moves for the 4th annual Dancing with the CU Stars gala on November 6 at the Refinery. More than 400 guests attended the event, and following all ten performances, the audience votes for their favorite dancers by donating money to support the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club. Each dollar counts as one vote, and at final tally, more than $211,000 had been raised! That is amazing! Maria + David were surrounded by a great group of friends at their wedding on Saturday. Their wedding party were all such easy-going good sports, and they made our jobs so fun and easy. The Refinery was beautifully decorated with floor to ceiling drapery, champagne uplighting and gold chiavari chairs. I loved their long head table down the center of the room -- very unexpected and neat, plus great for photographers! I was present for the entire reception, so there are a bunch of dancing photos included below. I had such a great time photographing the dancers all night! And Matt from Elite Entertainment did an amazing job of keeping the dance floor going all night. The only thing I would have changed would have been the rain at the end of the night that put a slight damper on the sparkler sendoff, but still fun nonetheless! Leave a comment below for Maria + David, and after 50 comments, they will receive a complimentary 11x14" mounted print of their choice!
***UPDATE: The full set of images from the event can be viewed and ordered HERE.*** On Friday, Nov. 1, hundreds of people from Champaign-Urbana gathered at the Refinery for the Dancing with the Champaign-Urbana Stars gala to benefit the Don Moyer Boys + Girls Club. More than $146,000 was raised for the organization that evening. Ten local celebrities were paired with professional dancers from the Regent Ballroom, took lessons for several weeks, and performed on the dance floor that night.
