Springfield-based band Mr. Opporknockity holds a special place in my heart, as my friend Ann and I have followed them for many years. At their show in April, Ann and I got to take a fun trip down memory lane as it was Mr. O's 21st anniversary and we reminisced about all the times and places we'd previously seen them live. It started in Jacksonville on the campus of Illinois College where our fandom first began. We also saw them at the Illinois State Fair, the Alamo, Vinegar Hill Mall, Marly's Pub, CO Daniel's in Champaign, (I'm sure I'm forgetting some) and now we've seen them at the Curve twice, with one more show coming up in August! You should definitely make plans to see them on August 10 in Springfield! And hey, if you want a little taste of their sound, you can find them on iTunes, Amazon, & Spotify!
I loved the super colorful theme from Brittany & Brian's wedding on July 26. We didn't have a ton of time or great locations close to the church for portraits, so Brittany and I decided before the wedding, that we would do some of them in the middle of Main St. My hometown of Mason City doesn't have a ton of through traffic, so we only had to dodge a few cars! Brittany had a bunch of fun ideas to incorporate throughout the day, a couple of which included a blindfold, much to Brian's dismay. They made for some funny photos though! The Northfield Center was decked out beautifully as well, and it was my first time photographing with LED uplights. They were AWESOME! I love that the colors changed throughout the dancing portion of the evening. I think they had an extra level of interest to the reception photos. Elena + Stephen had a beautiful wedding on Memorial Day weekend, and even though it was rainy and chilly most of the weekend, we had near perfect weather every time we were outside for photos! I loved the guys in their Army uniforms, and the bride's dress was amazing. I had been wanting to do a wedding at Erin's Pavilion for while, and I was so excited with Elena and her mom Gloria first met with me via Skype and said that's where the reception would be. Leave a comment below the post, and after 50 comments, Stephen + Elena will earn a complimentary 10x15" mounted print of their choice!
We started off with a few photos of the guys while we waited for the tram to bring the ladies back to the park for the First Look. I'm so happy Elena + Stephen chose to do a First Look as it freed up their day and their time between the ceremony and reception. Can you believe that Elena made all the bridesmaids' dresses? So awesome! Gorgeous! There were a ton of really cool details from the wedding, and you can tell that Elena + her family put in a ton of time, attention + love into all the little things. One of my new favorite images!! I'm glad they let me sneak them outside toward the end of the evening for a couple quick minutes! (And special thanks to the groomsman who graciously held my light and umbrella in the gale force winds!).
