fall wedding

Isabella + Casey | Spruce Street Studios wedding in Shelbyville, IL

HBP_8006.jpg

Izzy + Casey had some fun surprises planned for each other on their wedding day! The Star Wars helmets for the guys were a surprise to Izzy, and Izzy's Darth Vader/Stormtrooper garter was a surprise for Casey! I loved the black and silver with a hint of red that they chose as their theme, and it was evident the hard work and time they and their families had spent bringing it all together. Following the ceremony in Shelbyville, we headed a few blocks away to a park for some portraits and wedding party pictures. On the way there, we spotted an awesome side street with a gorgeous orange tree canopy over it. So on the way back, we stopped there and made everyone jump out of their cars onto the one way street -- I like to live dangerously! Ha! Thanks to everyone for being troopers with it all -- especially the ladies since it was chilly and a tad breezy on Saturday! Izzy + Casey, I wish you both many years of happiness together! Annie + Matt | Willett's Winery wedding in Manito, IL

Willetts-winery-wedding-Annie-Matt-160.jpg

Where do I start with this one? Matt and I go way back to middle school (maybe before?)... I'm thinking we probably initially met somewhere around 5th grade and his cousin Kristina (my childhood best friend) introduced us. Kristina stood up with Matt as his "best woman" on Saturday, and it was so fun hanging out again like old times. Matt and I actually went to UI together too, even in the same major. But after college, he became a world traveler, living in Africa for a couple years, Arizona for grad school, Washington DC for a summer, and then back to Arizona where he and Annie live now. This pair met on an internship in DC that summer I mentioned. The evening before the wedding, Annie + Matt hosted their family and wedding party out at his dad's farm for a bonfire, where I finally got to meet Annie! We immediately hit it off (at least I think so!), and I can definitely tell why Matt fell in love with her. She's beautiful, smart, funny, and reminds me a tiny bit of Kristen Wiig. LOL! :) So after getting ready at the farm and heading in to Manito, we stopped for a few portraits downtown before the ceremony. Afterward, the wedding party all ventured out to Spring Lake where we were treated to some fall leaves, gorgeous blue water and sunny skies. The reception was at the quaint Willett's Winery in Manito, an awesome venue space! I loved the red painted beer bottles they used as baby's breath holders, and the customized mason jars for every guest. One of my favorites memories of the reception was singing along to Callin' Baton Rouge by Garth Brooks in a big circle on the dance floor. I'm so jealous that Matt + Annie get to see him in concert again in Phoenix this coming weekend! I'm so, so happy for you both and hope you have the best + happiest life together! #happilyeverfornoffs Leave a comment below for Annie + Matt, and after 50 comments, they'll receive a complimentary 11x14" mounted print of their choice!

Jenny + Brandon | Pear Tree Estate wedding

HBP_4321.jpg

I had the privilege of once again second shooting a wedding for my good friend Kellie of Across the Miles Photography on Friday. It was great to meet Brandon + Jenny and I could tell right away that they were great people with a solid group of friends. It was SUPER windy that day, but we did our best to work around it, and then also the rain that followed the ceremony. Jenny was a real trooper though and I couldn't believe when she said that she actually likes rain. Well, she got it! You'll see some evidence of it in the photos below. :) Second shooting is so fun for me because I get to focus on in-the-moment candids. I'm posting quite a few of those because I feel that's one of a second photographer's biggest roles on the wedding day. While the main photographer is busy posing the bride and groom and crossing the "must-have" photos off the list, it's my job to capture things that the other photographer doesn't see or doesn't have time to focus on. I was so stoked when Kellie told me that the reception would be at Pear Tree Estate. It is one of my favorite venues and is so, so gorgeous. It's hard to take a bad picture there as everything is so picture perfect. Best of luck on your new marriage, Jenny + Brandon!
